After completing a B.A. with first class honours in Musicology, I continued my piano studies with AMEB examiner, Margriet Pendavingh. From Margriet I learned a natural technique, free of tension. This evolved into a valuable apprenticeship in which she invited me to work alongside her, with private piano and theory students.
While singing in the Recital Choir with the Melbourne Chorale I consolidated my vocal technique by studying with a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London: Mr. Roland Ashby. Again, the emphasis was on a natural method of tone production, that avoided any vocal strain.
Immediately after the completion of my Dip. Ed. I completed a detailed course on Choral Conducting with Faye Dumont, a former student of Rodney Eichenberger, and a practitioner of the use of visual cues in conducting that encourage the production of a full, relaxed vocal tone. Studies in Orff Schulwerk and Kodaly, as well as participation in early childhood conferences and workshops enhance my ability to teach even very young students.
I am currently teaching Music and Italian at Warrandyte Secondary College. I also have a limited number of vacancies in my home studio for both singing and piano/keyboard students.
As a result of my extensive classroom experience, training and many years of professional development, I have many teaching strategies that make me well placed to cater for the needs of all age groups and all levels of prior knowledge.
I offer comprehensive exam preparation with a variety of examining boards, in both classical and contemporary styles, including music theatre. I specialise in natural techniques, with in depth knowledge on how to accelerate students for exams where appropriate, based on their current abilities.
Whether looking to enrol your little one for an introduction to music, give your VCE student the extra edge they need at school, or looking to build and develop your own abilities, I have a tailored lesson plan just for you!
I am a fully registered teacher with the Victorian Music Teachers Association (VMTA) and hold full teacher registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).
I am an active member of the Midnight Music Technology group and The Inner Circle piano teachers association, as well as many other music and language related groups.
